Lesley R. Mitchell

POLO – Lesley R. Mitchell, 87, of Polo, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at his home. He was a bulk milk hauler for local farms for 46 years, and owned and operated Mitchell Cycles for 20 years.

Lesley was born Feb. 11, 1926, in Hooper, Neb., the son of Frank A. and Cora (Renninger) Mitchell. He was united in marriage to Nora Hose on Sept. 12, 1946, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Lesley was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Hooper. He was a member of the Rio Grande Valley Old Farm Equipment Club in Mercedes, Texas, for 13 years, and vice president the last 2 years.

Surviving are his wife, Nora; sons, Robert (Kathy) Mitchell, Dennis Mitchell, and Randy (Dawn) Mitchell, all of Polo; daughter, Diane (Phillip) Nelson of Rice, Minn.;  twin brother, Wesley Mitchell of Stillman Valley; and brother, John Mitchell of Rock Falls; eight grandchildren, Deb (Steve) Dillabough, Robert Mitchell Jr., Ashley (Curt) Houck, Christopher (Wendy) Mitchell, Courtney (Matt) Richardson, Amy (Joe) Merdian, Lindsay (Nick) Escobar, and Kalah (Mel) Peterson; 15 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Carter Merdian, Ellia, Tian, and Dominic Escobar, Mason and Maddox Peterson, Chloe Mitchell, Jordan Richardson, Tanner and Jessie Grobe, Anthony and Josh Dillabough, Skylar Mitchell, and Spencer Nelson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Adams, Ada Rasmussen, and Cora “Toot” Folk; and two brothers, Frank and Dean.

The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fairmount Cemetery in Polo. Cremation rites have been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Arrangements were handled by Polo Family Funeral Home.
