DIXON – Gary Allen Robbins, 77, of Dixon, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Franklin Grove Nursing Center. He was a teacher in the Dixon School District before his retirement.
Gary was born June 6, 1936, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of John and Pauline (Cornilson) Robbins. He married Linda Schnathorst on June 26, 1956, in Marshalltown. He served in the Navy as a photographer. He was a member of 16th Avenue Church of Christ in Sterling. Gary enjoyed writing poetry, going for walks, and hunting. He was kind, quiet, and loving.
Survivors include his wife of Dixon; three sons, Chris (Pamela) Robbins and Cary (Julie) Robbins, both of Dixon, and Jamey (Kelli) Robbins of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren, Kendra Robbins and Kayla (Tyler) Halfacre, both of Dixon, Seth (Jenny) Robbins of Champaign, Caleb Robbins of Waco, Texas, Erin (Levi) Hoover of Colorado Springs, and Zachary Robbins of Tempe, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren, Kaleigha Elledge, Cayden Elledge, and Taitum Hoover, all of Colorado Springs, and Brady Halfacre of Dixon; and two sisters, Betty Ricketts of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Shirley Rhea of Anderson, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Robbins and Clifford Robbins; and one sister, LaVonne “Bonnie” Rhea.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at 16th Avenue Church of Christ, with David Schmidt, minister, officiating. Burial with full military graveside honors provided by the Dixon combined veterans organizations will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon. There will be no visitation.
A memorial has been established.
