Football: Week 2 by the numbers

Here is a smattering of key numbers recorded by Sauk Valley-area football teams during the 14-game Week 2 slate:

That portion of the Sauk Valley-area teams that were ranked in the AP poll released last Tuesday lost their Week 2 games. Dixon fell 44-0 (1 vote in 5A) to powerhouse Rochelle, Fulton (10th in 1A) fell 32-14 to Kewanee, and Erie-Prophetstown (10 votes in 3A) lost 22-21 to Hall.

It took Sterling that many games last season to surpass its total passing yardage to date this year. Bryant Lilly and Co. have racked up 434 yards through two games, and with 63 yards through the air, the Warriors reached 451 in Week 8 last October.

Jake Snow scored that many touchdowns in less than 7 minutes in the first quarter of Newman's 61-7 rout of Princeton on Friday.

That's Dixon's total yardage-for-against differential this season. The Dukes outgained Monmouth-Roseville 489-172 in Week 1, then were eclipsed 475-173 by the Hubs on Friday.

That many seconds remained when Hall scored the go-ahead touchdown against Erie-Prophetstown.

That's the number of wins the Red Devils came up with each of the previous two seasons.

That's the number of times Morrison lost by 20 or more points in the previous eight seasons. The Mustangs lost 50-0 on Friday night in Orion.

That was the yards-per-carry average for the Grobe brothers in Polo's 62-6 victory over AFC on Friday night. The Marcos averaged 10.5 per lug as a team.

Traditional powerhouse East Dubuque outgained West Carroll by that many yards in a 22-14 victory Friday night. Impressive, considering the Thunder were coming off a 65-6 loss to Eastland-Pearl City in Week 1.

That many Missiles logged at least one carry in their 60-34 loss to Orangeville in Milledgeville Friday night.

That was the number of varsity carries Milledgeville sophomore Nick DeVito had before scoring the final touchdown from 9 yards out in the closing minutes of the aforementioned game.

That's the combined third- and fourth-down conversion percentages for Milledgeville and Orangeville on Friday night.
