DIXON – Laura P. Mahan, 86, of Dixon, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at KSB Hospital in Dixon. 

She was born Dec. 10, 1926, in Sterling, the daughter of Paul and Nina (Vittorio) Vittori.

She was employed by GE in Morrison during World War II. She and her husband had owned Jim’s Place in Amboy (currently the Long Branch Saloon) from 1963 to 1968. She had also worked at BorgWarner, Sauk Valley Vendors, and Heritage Square prior to her retirement.

She had been the housekeeper at St. Patrick’s Rectory in Dixon for many years.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, a volunteer for KSB Hospice, and a foster grandparent at St. Mary’s School. 

Laura married James L. Mahan in Sterling on July 10, 1954. He preceded her in death March 4, 1986. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ripley; and three brothers, Harry, Lucian, and Alio Vittori.

Survivors include her children, Patricia McConnaughay of Kentucky, Donna (Dennis) McCoy, Daniel (Roxanne) Mahan, and Mary (Greg) Deatherage, all of Dixon; eight grandchildren, Babette O’Reilly, Douglas McConnaughay, Michael McCoy, Nicholas Mahan, Travis Deatherage, Alexandria Mahan, Nathan McCoy and Evanne Deatherage;  three great-grandchildren, Tony, Cohen and Sophia O’Reilly; one sister, Barbara Boos of Dixon; and many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon, with the rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Michael Morrissey officiating. Burial of cremains will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.

A memorial has been established to St. Anne Catholic School in Dixon.
