WALNUT – Helen R. Garland, 59, of Walnut, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her friends and family.

Helen was born Aug. 17, 1954, in Dixon, the daughter of Wayne Clinton and Betty Jane (Wagner) Palmer. She worked at Walnut Manor Nursing Home in Walnut for 10 years. She retired March 1, 2013. Helen was a member of First Christian Church in Polo. She graduated from Polo Community High School, later went to Sterling School of Beauty and also La James College of Hairstyling in Mason City, Iowa. Helen enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and her dog Baxter.

Survivors include one daughter, Sarah (Black) Cunliffe of Wyanet; one brother, Roger (Jane) Palmer of Polo; four grandchildren, Camron, Gabbi, Shayla and Mikey; one niece, Jena Pilling; one nephew, Jarrin Palmer, two great-nieces, Kennedi and Kenzie; and two great-nephews, Kurtis and Johnny.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Cremation rites will follow and inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
