Volleyball: Cardiac Clippers edge Red Devils on road

Erie rallies in Orion; Oregon, Bureau Valley win in straight sets

Madeline Ely served up a storm, and the Amboy volleyball team overcame a sour sandwich stanza to edge Hall in a Three Rivers match 25-14, 14-25, 26-24 on Thursday in Spring Valley.

Ely racked up 21 service points and 10 assists. Hannah McCoy had six kills and three blocks and served out the nail-biting third set, in which Amboy (1-1, 1-1 Three Rivers) trailed by five at one point.

Erie def. Orion 10-25, 25-20, 25-19: After a match-opening hiccup, the Cardinals rallied for a nonconference victory on the road.

Rachel Cobert had 10 kills for the Cardinals, and her sister, Courtney, had 15 digs. Mary Chapman dealt out 15 assists.

Morrison def. Rockridge 22-25, 25-20, 26-24: The Fillies rounded out a triumvirate of clutch victories by Sauk Valley squads, edging the Rockets in a nonconference game in Rockridge.

Sherrard def. Prophetstown 25-13, 15-25, 25-23: The Prophets battled after dropping the first set, but couldn’t pull off a Three Rivers crossover win on the road.

Karlie Stafford had six kills and two aces, and Kate Fringer added 13 assists and two aces for Prophetstown (1-1).

Burlington Central def. Rock Falls 25-17, 25-27, 25-13: The Rockets put their namesake on the ropes, but couldn’t pull out a nonconference victory on the road.

Paige Reynolds had nine kills, and Chelsi Blair had 14 assists for Rock Falls (0-3). The hosting Rockets improved to 3-0.

Oregon def. North Boone 25-8, 25-12: Behind five aces, five digs and three kills by Sommer Rhea, the Hawks rolled in Poplar Grove.

Cydney Long added eight digs and five kills, and Delaney Mahoney notched 12 assists for Oregon (5-2-1).

Bureau Valley def. Kewanee 25-15, 25-17: Lindsey Hoffert had 10 kills, much thanks to Sydney Lebahn’s 26 assists, in a Three Rivers victory.

Carlie Bickett and Valerie Reuter added seven kills apiece, the latter also notching nine service points for the Storm (2-0).

Eastland def. Milledgeville 27-25, 20-25: Haley McAuliffe filled the stat sheet, but Eastland won the nonconference match in Milledgeville.

McAuliffe had eight assists, four digs, three blocks and two kills.

AFC def. Hinckley-Big Rock 25-19, 19-25, 26-24: The Raiders won a back-and-forth match against HBR in Ashton, thanks in part to 11 kills, three blocks, 18 digs and 12 service points from Cassidy Koning.

Katie Sondgeroth added 18 points, three aces and seven assists, while Lea Koning dished 12 assists for AFC (2-0).

Faith Christian def. QC Christian 25-16, 25-15: The Falcons improved to 6-1 with an easy NICC win in Grand Detour.

Tressa Schuler led the way with seven kills, 11 digs and seven aces.
