Floyd A. Mitchell

SUMNER – Floyd A. Mitchell, 65, of Sumner, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville. He was a retired auto mechanic. 

Floyd was born May 24, 1948, in Carbondale, the son of Norman A. and Viola (Murray) Mitchell. He was a Navy veteran, having served from 1966 to 1969 in Vietnam. He married Patricia “Pat” Elder on Aug. 31, 1971.

Survivors include his wife, Pat of Sumner; four sons, Kenny (Carrie) Erdmier of Willis, Texas, Kevin (Veronica) Mitchell of Humble, Texas, Marty (Brandi) Mitchell of Olney, and Tony Mitchell of Sterling; one daughter Mindy Laslie (Kerry Fehrenbacher) of Ingraham; one brother, Charlie (Deb) Mitchell of Rock Falls; five sisters, Lorraine (Dave) Wahl of Sterling, Patty (Don) McKenna of Milledgeville; Sonya (Tim) McEvoy of Rock Falls, Chyrel (Gary) Magill of Coleta, and Jean Ludwick of Rock Falls; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Monday and the funeral at 1 p.m. Monday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. Burial will be at Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded.
