CHICAGO (AP) – The National Weather Service says swimming conditions are dangerous along Lake Michigan in Illinois.
The weather service issued a beach hazards statement on Wednesday afternoon. It’s in effect until late tonight and includes the shores of Lake Michigan from the Wisconsin border to northwestern Indiana.
Forecasters say a cold front is due in the region and will bring winds that will produce waves of between 3 and 6 feet. The weather service says people should stay out of the water because there will be “dangerous pounding waves” and “life-threatening rip currents.”
Rip currents can sweep swimmers into deeper waters.
