In this June 24 file photo, George Zimmerman arrives in Seminole circuit court with his wife, Shellie, on the 11th day of his trial, in Sanford, Fla. Zimmerman's wife filed for divorce Thursday, less than 2 months after her husband was acquitted of murdering Trayvon Martin and a week after she pleaded guilty to perjury in his case.

ORLANDO, Fla. – George Zimmerman’s wife is preparing to file for divorce, her defense lawyer confirmed Thursday, less than 2 months after the former Neighborhood Watch volunteer was acquitted of murder in the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Shellie Zimmerman’s attorney, Kelly Sims, told the Orlando Sentinel Thursday afternoon that he was still preparing a petition but had not yet filed it.

“After much soul searching and recent disappointments, Shellie feels compelled to officially end her 6-year marriage to George Michael Zimmerman,” Sims said.

The Seminole County Clerk of Courts confirmed that the couple’s divorce paperwork had not yet been received.

The news comes a week after Shellie Zimmerman revealed new details about their strained relationship in a TV interview.
