CAMANCHE, Iowa – Verne H. Blaser, 95, of Camanche, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at West Wing Place in DeWitt, Iowa.
Verne Hartman Blaser was born Sept. 26, 1917, in Rock Island County, the son of August and Freda (Haas) Blaser. He was a graduate of Low Moor High School. He married Dolores Thompson on Dec. 9, 1945, in Elvira. She died Sept. 5, 2000.
He was a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He farmed for many years outside of Camanche. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Camanche, Camanche Masonic Lodge, and Clinton Moose Club. He enjoyed being on the Honor Flight in 2011.
He is survived by three daughters, Gloria (Robert) Stamp of Camanche, Shirley (James) Clapp of Arlington, Iowa, and Faye (Gordon) Nicklaus of Dixon; his son, Alan (Lola) Blaser of DeWitt; 10 grandchildren, Gregory (Brenda) Stamp, Michael (LeAnne) Stamp, Cindy Clapp, Angela Clapp, Janelle (Brad) Throne, Jerilyn (fiancé, Steven Hocker) Clark, Michelle Blaser, Jessica (fiancé, Luke Griffith) Blaser, Katie Blaser, and Cassie Blaser; and four great-grandchildren, August Stamp, Forrest Stamp, Dalton Stamp, and Keegan Clark.
He also was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday and the funeral at 1 p.m. Sunday at Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory in Camanche. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the Camanche Veterans of Foreign Wars. Serving as pallbearers will be the grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Camanche.
