STERLING – A Subway restaurant is now one step closer to being built on Locust Street.
The Sterling City Council on Tuesday agreed to vacate a public right of way on Reins Street so that the developers can move forward with their plans for the restaurant. The council's decision is contingent upon the submission and approval of a site plan and developmental agreement.
The petition for the vacation of the right of way was submitted by Daniel Sigwards, Katherine Sigwards and Harness Properties, LLC.
Reins Street would be used as an entrance to Subway.
During the council's meeting Tuesday night, Daniel Sigwards said the building will be about 1,800 square feet with an attached parking lot of approximately 30 stalls, two of them for handicapped drivers. It would employ about 16 to 18 people. The plans might also include a drive-thru lane, Sigwards said.
The council also voted Tuesday to move its meetings back to the Coliseum, 212 Third Ave., starting Sept. 16.
The council has been meeting at the former Blockbuster store, dubbed the City Hall Annex, at 20 W. Third St., while the $4.5 million Coliseum renovation project has been underway.
