Amy Rotella had 10 kills, while Caitlin Rozek added eight kills and seven aces to lead the Dixon volleyball team to a 25-16, 21-25, 25-18 win against Rochelle on Tuesday in Lancaster Gymnasium.
Also for the Duchesses (1-2), Rachel Gascoigne had 21 assists, and Jessa Long added 13 digs.
BV def. Fulton 25-18, 25-21: The Storm went on the road and returned to Manlius with a Three Rivers North win.
Rachael Beiermann had nine kills and five assists for Fulton (1-1, 1-1), while Betsy Leonard added eight kills and three blocks. Chelsea Lesniewski had six kills and nine digs, Olivia Edfors added 17 assists and six digs, and Averi Leitzen chipped in seven digs.
AFC def. LaMoille-Ohio 25-17, 19-25, 25-18: Cassidy Koning had nine kills and 20 digs, Lexie Fore added eight kills and two blocks, and the Raiders won a back-and-forth match in Ashton.
Marissa Asbury added 25 points, 24 digs and five aces, and it was her run of eight straight points early in the third set that put AFC (1-0) firmly in control. Kayla Colwell had 23 digs, Katie Sondgeroth dished 10 assists, and Emily Mairs stuffed four blocks for the Raiders.
Fulton Unity def Polo 25-13, 23-25, 25-20: The Knights traveled to Polo and left with a three-set victory over the Marcos.
Faith Christian def. Cornerstone 25-20, 25-19: Annabeth Rozanas had seven set assists, five kills, five digs and three aces as the Falcons won in Sycamore.
Also for Faith (5-1), Tressa Schuler had 11 digs, eight aces and six kills, while Katie Cover added two kills, two digs and two aces.
Boys cross country
Sterling 26, Geneseo 29: Cody Lund and Keaton Dir combined for a time of 32 minutes, 16 seconds as the Golden Warriors edged the Maple Leafs in their annual Grass Relays event at Woodlawn School.
Ethan Rocha and Zach Alston placed fourth in 32:56.
BV wins in Chillicothe: Ryan Taylor, Kane Eastwood and Colton Peterson all finished in the top five as the Storm easily won a quadrangular hosted by Illinois Valley Central.
Taylor's time of 18:17.8 was second only to Henry's Alex Pettis (17:23.6). Eastwood was fourth in 19:07, and Peterson fifth in 19:35.2. Yulian Osorio (seventh, 19:44.8) and Charlie Lotspeich (ninth, 19:55.9) also counted toward BV's team score.
Ohio's Johnee Schulte (eighth, 19:54.8) and Jacob Tudor (12th, 20:10.4) both placed in the top 12.
The Storm scored 26 points, beating IVC (55), Henry (61) and DePue (97).
Girls cross country
BV third in Chillicothe: Regan Weidner was the lone Storm runner in the top nine in a triangular hosted by Illinois Valley Central.
Weidner took third in 21:41.9. trailing IVC's Katherine Scheider (21:00.5) and Henry's Jillian Monier (21:02.30). BV's Riley Francis was 10th (24:08.1) and Corinne Wagenknecht was 11th (24:24.5).
Henry won the meet with 27 points. IVC was second (40) and Bureau Valley third (59).
Sterling 4, Princeton 4: The Golden Warriors played the Tigers to a draw in a nonconference match on the road.
Tony Diaz and Carlos Gallardo each had two goals and an assist for Sterling (1-1-2).
Cornerstone 11, Faith Christian 0: The Falcons opened their season with a loss to Cornerstone in Sycamore.
Geneseo 3, Dixon 2: The Duchesses won a singles match and a doubles match in a home loss to the Maple Leafs.
Dixon's Katie Hammitt won the No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-1 over Clare Possin. The No. 1 doubles team of Hayley Kent and Jessica VanOosten won 6-3, 6-4 over Geneseo's Nori Westerlund and Jessi Daly.
Alleman 4, Newman 1: Anne Vits won the Comets' lone match in a home loss to the Pioneers at Centennial Park in Rock Falls.
Vits beat Alleman's Talia Snider 7-6, 2-6, 10-8.
LaSalle-Peru 3, Sterling 2: Maura Scanlan won at No. 1 singles, while Sarah Trobaugh and Anna Iverson won at No. 2 doubles for the Golden Warriors in a road loss to the Cavaliers.
