Salute to all who donated school supplies

Published: Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

I would like to thank everyone who donated money and supplies to the School Supply Closet.

Our closet opened again on Aug. 1 and since that time has distributed school supplies to more than 750 students in Sterling, Rock Falls, and surrounding areas. Those students range from preschool through college and include all public and private schools.

We really appreciate the public’s help in making it possible to be of assistance to all of those students and pray that these supplies will make the beginning of their school year a much easier transition.

I also would like to thank all those who volunteered many hours to shop, stock shelves, and assist the students in their selections. Without your help, we would not have been able to do this.

We are open all year round and will be open Wednesday evenings from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout the fall and winter. We appreciate any donations you may wish to make, as we need to keep our shelves stocked to the fullest.

Also, if you wish to volunteer, please let us know. You may contact us at 815-441-1988 or visit us at 910 Second Ave., Sterling.

Thank you, again, to everyone who helped in any way. God bless you all.

There’s a movement afoot in the Illinois Legislature to name former President Barack Obama’s birthday (Aug. 4) as a legal holiday in Illinois. What do you think?
