Have we really changed the way we do business at City Hall? It appears to me that when “kicking the city,” we get a corrective response and not before.
The kick this time came from this newspaper reporting the private meeting held between Dixon City Council members to divide up job responsibilities.
The lack of comment from Mayor Burke and City Council members is disappointing. “No comment” and let Chief Langloss handle the mess seems to be the recurring theme. We won’t do it again, don’t bring it up, the Crundwell era is over, and let’s move on ... blah, blah, blah.
This is the same old story; sorry, I am tired of it. For the record, just because an action occurred during the “Rita era” does not excuse it from being investigated or reported.
So, if you were not caught circumventing legal procedures, would it still be business as usual?
Of course you will fix it now. That is how most things get fixed; when you know it is broke or you get caught doing wrong, you fix it.
Chief Langloss says, “We need to be as open and transparent as possible.” I agree and contend that this would be done best with a city manager who is familiar with state law concerning the Open Meetings Act.
I have been attending Dixon City Council meetings because I have the time, energy, and passion. I consider myself and others in attendance to be “watchdogs” for those citizens who are too busy with their lives and cannot attend these meetings. Local TV, radio, and newspaper reporters are how most citizens get information concerning the city business.
Trust me, just because more people do not show up at these meetings does not mean they do not care. They do, and they will show their concern at the voting booth.
