SPRINGFIELD – Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White has announced the “Letters About Literature” program for students in fourth through 12 grades.

To participate, students must read a book of their choice and write a letter to the author about how it changed their life or view of the world.

There will be three age levels. One winner from each level will win $200. Teachers of winning students will receive a $100 to purchase materials for their school library.

Winning letters will be forwarded for national judging. The entry deadline is Dec. 10 for Level III, and Jan. 10 for Levels I and II. Winners will be announced in April.

For more information on how to enter, go to http://illinoiscenterforthebook.org or contact Bonnie Matheis at bmatheis@ilsos.net or 217-558-2065.
