The third annual outdoor adventure fest was Aug. 24 in celebration of outdoor recreation. This unique festival, at the Sterling-Rock Falls Family YMCA, is designed to increase awareness, participation, and appreciation for the many recreational opportunities available for families outdoors.
This free, family-friendly event featured live fish in the swimming pool, live animal clinics, creative children’s activities, and great food all day long for almost 1,400 people. This event would not have been possible without the support of community organizations and businesses.
Title sponsor, Freedom Bank, and Fishing Derby sponsor, State Farm, Mike Sprague, along with these groups helped secure funding for the event and provided their time, talents, and resources: Airplay Sports, Boy Scouts, Cobblestone Ice Cream, Coloma Park District, Engel Electric, Girl Scouts, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Illinois National Guard, Kohl’s, Legacy Archery, Niabi Zoo, NIU-Lorado Taft, Pete Harkness Auto Group, Mike Poci and Sons, Walmart Supercenter, Walmart Distribution Center, Wiersema Waste Service, Wahl, and Woodlawn Arts Academy.
More than 75 volunteers helped to make the event run smoothly, including volunteers from Harvest Time Bible Church, Sterling High School cheerleaders, Rock Falls High School, GPA, B.L.I.N.D, AmeriCorps, and the Wood family.
