Law enforcement increasing holiday weekend patrols

ISP, Sterling and Dixon police will have additional officers on staff through Monday

STERLING – In preparation for the holiday weekend, local law enforcement agencies have increased patrols to keep drivers safe.

Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Ken Sondgeroth said his department would be on the lookout for distracted driving, DUIs and seat-belt violations.

“Extra patrols will be out,” Sondgeroth said. “Staff that would normally be in the office will be out on patrol, so that will beef up our patrol numbers.”

Sterling and Dixon police are participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” crackdown on drunken drivers. Both agencies have extra officers on patrol to concentrate specifically on enforcement of DUI and seat-belt laws in the Sauk Valley.

The program, funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation, will run through Monday.

Rock Falls Police Chief Mike Kuelper said his agency was not part of the grant.
