CHICAGO (AP) — A group of Chicago area pastors and Illinois elected officials are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.

Several gathered Wednesday at a historic Chicago church where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. once spoke. They told stories about King and then rang a bell.

Numerous groups nationwide did the same, something the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change organized.

Gov. Pat Quinn, Secretary of State Jesse White and U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly attended the event in Chicago.

White shared his memories of King. White attended college in Alabama attended King's church. He says King had heart for all.
