Glenn W. Esterday

ROCHELLE – Glenn W. Esterday, 83, of Rochelle, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, in Rochelle.

He was born Oct. 31, 1929, to Arthur and Elsie (Fischer) Esterday in Van Orin. Glenn married Patricia Lower on Oct. 20, 1950, in Fort Worth, Texas. He worked for Kemper Insurance as a regional director of operations. Glenn was an Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Rochelle.

Glenn enjoyed golfing, traveling, gardening, sharing stories, and spending time at the lake. He just returned from a cruise exploring Alaska, fulfilling his lifelong dream.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Pat, and two sons, Kenneth “Pete” (Carol) Esterday and Steve (Colleen) Esterday, all of Rochelle; two daughters, Sheryl Hockenbery of Newport Beach, Calif., and Mary (Ben) Rogers of Ashton; 11 grandchildren, Dana Wilder, Adam Hockenbery, Jill Hockenbery, Eric and Aaron Esterday, Adrienne (Seth) Stafford, Natalie (Nate) Gordon, Corrine (Dan) Kroger, Benjamin Rogers, and Ariana and Caleb Esterday; and 11 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Clifford and Kenneth.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St., Rochelle. Visitation also will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Rochelle. Burial, with military honors accorded by the Eastern Lee-Ogle Honor Guard, will be at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.

Memorials have been established to Faith Lutheran Church and Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Rochelle Fire Department; Judy Williams, chaplain; and the Rev. Chris Heller.
