PEORIA (AP) — A 96-year-old Peoria man is winning fame with a song he wrote for his late wife of nearly 73 years.
Fred Stobaugh entered a singer-songwriter contest hosted by East Peoria's Green Shoe Studio. The Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/17fm2CN) Stobaugh sent the studio a hand-written copy of a song called "Oh Sweet Lorraine." The studio was so moved employees decided to record the song and make a mini-documentary. So far the song has gotten hundreds of thousands of hits online.
The couple met at an East Peoria root beer stand in 1938 and married two years later. Lorraine passed away this past April at age 91, just two months before the couple's 73rd anniversary.
