Support YWCA as a member

Published: Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 11:45 a.m. CST

I want to invite people to take a look at our local YWCA of the Sauk Valley.  Did you know our YWCA has a history of nearly 90 years in the Sauk Valley?

That’s nearly 90 years of empowering women and eliminating racism in our community. Our YWCA is one of more than 200 YWCAs across the nation and many more worldwide that work for peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people.

Ever since I started serving on the board of directors in 2006, I have been amazed with the staff and all the services they provide in our community. I had the privilege of serving my two terms, and have continued to volunteer my time because I truly believe in their mission.

I want to encourage people to join the YWCA’s movement to positively impact lives across the Sauk Valley by becoming a member. An annual membership rate ranges from $5 to $25. Come into the YWCA and become part of a great legacy in our area.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
