STERLING – The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department is looking for information about a safe containing nearly $3,000 that was stolen from Fortune’s Auto Repair, 1601 W. Fourth St., sometime between 9 p.m. Thursday and 7:50 a.m. Friday.

The burglar or burglars forced their way into the business through the main door, Detective John Booker said.

The safe had just less than $3,000, owner Tommy Fortune said.

Deputies also are looking for information on a break-in at a construction company’s trailer at a home in the 300 block of Stouffer Road in rural Sterling the weekend of Aug. 5. Power tools were taken from the trailer and from an unattached garage, Booker said.

The two incidents do not appear to be related, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s department, 815-772-4044, or the anonymous reward hotline, Whiteside County Crime Stoppers, 815-625-7867 or 877-625-7867.
