TAMPICO – Police say they expect to file charges soon in Saturday’s stabbing of a 50-year-old Tampico man that occurred around 6 p.m. in the alley behind Casey’s General Store, 201 S. Main St.

A fight broke out between two men and one was “swiped” with a knife from his left upper chest area to his left shoulder, Tampico Sgt. Boyd Van Dellen said, adding that alcohol might have been involved.

The victim was taken to CGH Medical Center in Sterling, where he received more than 40 stitches before being released, Van Dellen said.

There were “a couple of witnesses,” he said, and police hope to file charges this week.

“We’re just running down loose ends right now,” Van Dellen said.
