Dukes finish 2nd at Jefferson Invite

Ryan Dixon and Austin Thomas combined for an 83 to finish third in the Jefferson J-Hawk Invitational on Friday at Aldeen Golf Course in Rockford.

Rockford East won with a 262, followed by Dixon (270), Guilford (294) and Jefferson (335). Each squad had three two-man teams, and each played six holes of scramble, six holes of best ball and six holes of alternate shot.

Also for the Dukes, Cole Ruckman and Cord Schroeder combined for an 88, while John Brechon and Jacob Bonnell teamed up for a 99.

Rockets place second: Cooper Kilberg carded a 42 for Rock Falls (172), which finished behind Mendota (161) and ahead of Winnebago (204) in a meet Thursday at Mendota Golf Club.

The medalist was the Trojans' Mark Prescott with a 4-over-par 39.

College golf

Skyhawks open at Byron: Sauk Valley opened its season with a sixth-place finish at the 12-team PrairieView Preview at PrairieView Golf Course in Byron.

The Skyhawks had a team total of 324, behind Black Hawk gold (299), College of DuPage (306), Carl Sandburg (317), Black Hawk black (318) and Waubonsee (323).

Evan Eissens (75), Cody Tiesman (76) finished fifth and sixth overall, respectively. Patrick Petrosky added an 81.

Co-medalists were Black Hawk's Shelby Rescito and Chad Nitz with 1-over-par 73s.
