Annual walk to benefit animal shelter

DIXON – The 16th Granny Rose Animal Shelter Annual Steps for Strays Walk-A-Thon is Sept. 14.

The walk will be at 9:30 a.m., with registration starting at 8:30, rain or shine at Lowell Park Pinetum, 2114 Lowell Park Road. Walkers will travel the bike path.

Proceeds will benefit the shelter. Applications and pledge forms may be picked up in advance at the shelter, 613 River Lane.

The cost is $25 for walkers and their dog.

All walkers will receive a T-shirt and raffle ticket. Those with pledges of $50 or more also will receive a goodie bag and an additional raffle ticket. A limited number of cat goodie bags will be available upon request.

The first 10 walkers with pledges of $100 or more will receive an additional gift.

There also will be a prize for the first 1-mile walker.

All raffle items and prizes were donated by local merchants.

For a nominal fee, Lee County Animal Control will microchip dogs from 9 to 11 a.m.

Food will be sold.

Dogs under 6 months of age, vicious dogs and females in heat will not be allowed to participate.
