Refuge birding tours on the Mississippi

Free birding van tours through the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge are available on the second Saturday and third Sunday of each month, but will be different in October and November. Those tours will be Oct. 6 and 20; and Nov. 9 and 24. Photo submitted by the Refuge.

THOMSON – Free golf cart tours through the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge are offered the first and third Thursday, and third Saturday, through October.

The cart will leave at 8 a.m. from Ingersoll Wetlands Learning Center, 7071 Riverview Road, returning at 10 a.m.

Participants are asked to arrive at 7:45 a.m. Registration is required, and seating is limited to 7.

Free birding van tours will be Oct. 6 and 20, and Nov. 9 and 24,

The van will leave at 1 p.m. and return at 5 p.m. at the Lost Mount Unit Office parking lot, 3159 Crim Road, Savanna.

Participants should arrive at 12:45 p.m. Seating is limited. Birding van tours normally take place the second Saturday and third Sunday of each month, but have been switched due to hunting at Lost Mound.
