STERLING – Florence L. Miller, 89, of Sterling, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at Sterling Pavilion Nursing Home.

She was born March 28, 1924, in Watertown, S.D., the daughter of Henry and Mary (Schmit) Cordell. She married Alvin Franklin Miller on Aug. 6, 1960, in Sterling. He died June 17, 2005. Florence was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling.

Surviving are her six children, her sons, Michael D. (Rhonda) Miller of Sterling, James P. Miller of Rock Falls, Randall T. Miller of Sterling, and Anthony J. (Theresa) Miller of Kingsland, Ga., and her daughters, Mary Kendall and Patricia Miller, both of Sterling; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her granddaughter, Hannah Kendall; her two brothers, Henry and Edward Cordell; and her four sisters, Dorothy Sumner, Mary Halbmaier, Bernice Cordell, and Lois Hohlen.

Visitation will be from 9 to 9:55 a.m. and Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, with Monsignor Thomas Dzielak, celebrant, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling. McDonald Funeral Home in Sterling is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
