MACOMB (AP) — Western Illinois University wants students and faculty to make environmentally friendly use of their water bottles.
To encourage that, the Macomb-based school has installed six water-bottle stations on campus. And WIU's sustainability coordinator, Mandi Green, says 14 more will go up during the coming school year.
A WIU statement on the plans says millions of plastic bottles go into dumps each year in the United States. And it says the plastic can take hundreds of years to decompose.
The cost of buying new bottled water can also add up. So the sustainability coordinator says refilling water bottles both helps the planet and pocketbooks.
