Coloma Park District - Joan Fritz

Park district’s fall classes set to start

ROCK FALLS – As the summer comes to a close, we are looking ahead to the fall programs at Coloma Park District.

Tae-Kwon-Do (Korean Karate)

The Tae-Kwon-Do program is for ages 7 and older. Patrick Stramka will be the instructor. Classes will run Tuesday and Thursday from Sept. 3 through Oct. 10. Ages 7-12 will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; ages 13 and older will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; and Modern Arnis for ages 13 and older will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $69 and includes T-shirt and first belt testing.

Disc Golf Lessons

Tips on roper form, types of shots, hand grips, putting styles, long distance drives and course strategy will be given.

All that is needed is a couple of discs if you have them.

These lessons are for ages 10 and older. They will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 5, 12, 19, and 26 at Nims Park at East Third Street and Avenue E.

Nate Nelson, Disc Golf Association member will be the instructor. The cost is $20 and includes a beginner-friendly disc.  

Children’s Arts and Crafts

This class is for those who enjoy neat, but messy crafts of all types. Give this class a try, and don’t worry about having to clean the mess. Practical and beautiful crafts will be featured. All materials are provided. Children’s Arts & Crafts for students in first through eighth grade will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 9 through Dec. 2 at the Little Red Schoolhouse, 512 W. 11th St. Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas crafts are planned. Each class is $5, with a limit of 12 participants. Joan Fritz will be the instructor for these classes.

Fishing Derby

The Rock Falls Optimist Club and the Coloma Township Park District will sponsor a free Fishing Derby Sept. 7 at Centennial Park, East 11th Street, and on a small portion of the canal. The derby is for those 14 and younger. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the Lions Shelter at the park. The derby runs from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Each participant will receive a gift  Prizes will be awarded in various categories. Free hot dogs and a drink will be provided. 

Zumba Fitness

Join the party from Sept. 3 through Dec. 19. Jennie Sondgeroth, a licensed Zumba instructor, will lead the class from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at Merrill School, 600 Fourth Avenue. The cost is $5 daily; $30 monthly (unlimited) and $40 for a 10-visit punch card.
