Estel A. Keefer

ROCK FALLS – Estel Albert Keefer, 61, of Rock Falls, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at his home, after an extended illness.

Estel was born Sept. 5, 1951, in Xenia, Ohio, the son of John Lee Sr. and Caryl Estelleen (Butts) Keefer. He married Gail Ann Unterzuber on Dec. 8, 1972, in Rock Falls. Estel worked as an electrician at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. and BorgWarner in Dixon for 8 years. He enjoyed riding his Harley. Estel served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Rock Falls American Legion Post 902.

Survivors include his wife, Gail of Rock Falls; three daughters, Sonya Keefer of Rock Falls, Kathleen (Chris) Mixen of Sterling, and Jennifer Collin of Rock Falls; three sons, Estel (Maryann) Keefer Jr., Dallas Collin, and Austin Collin, all of Rock Falls; four sisters, Karen Keefer and Edith Day, both of Florida, Kim DeWeese of Arkansas, and Caryl Siegobiano of Sterling; three brothers, John Keefer Jr. of Texas, and Jerry Keefer and Bill Keefer, both of Arkansas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, David Keefer.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with David Schmitt of 16th Avenue Church of Christ in Sterling officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Disabled Veterans of America.
