New retail shop settles into Dixon’s downtown

DIXON – Not long after Marceile’s Consignment & Resale closed at the corner of Peoria Avenue and First Street, another retail store plans to open at that location.

Roxie’s, a boutique shop selling new, used and vintage furniture, home decor, clothing, and accessories, as well as gourmet treats and bottled sodas, plans to hold a grand opening Sept. 27 and 28.

Amy Fenwick, 28, who recently returned to Dixon from California, is interested in running her own business, because she grew up with her mother, Peggy, owning her own store, Quality Resales.

She noted that the location, at Dixon’s second-busiest intersection, was too good to pass up.

Roxy’s could open before the grand opening, but a date is not set.

Marceile’s Consignment & Resale closed at the end of July; owner Marceile Pritchard said the business was not profitable.

Downtown business could soon reopen

DIXON – One of seven downtown businesses that have closed or plan to close this year soon could reopen under new ownership.

Wedding Whims, 113 S. Hennepin Ave., is in talks with a possible buyer.

The business, slated to close Oct. 31, was doing well, but owner Stacy Blackbourn said she wants to spend more time with her family.

Dixon Foods sells alcohol

DIXON – A new refrigeration system has allowed Dixon Food Center, 500 Chicago Ave., to start selling alcohol, manager Chad Ullrich said.

The Red Fox grocery store started selling alcohol in May when the refrigeration system was installed.
