Benefit planned, donations sought

STERLING – A benefit will be held Sunday for a Sterling woman being treated for multiple sclerosis.

Karen Rippy Cochran, 51, was diagnosed in November with late-stage multiple sclerosis. She worked at Crest Foods in Ashton, then Micron Industries Corp. in Sterling, but is unable to work now. She has three adult children and several grandchildren.

The fundraiser will be from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Wagon Wheel, 1711 W. Fourth St. Food will be $4 for a barbecue plate or $3 for a hot dog plate, with baked beans, chips, and potato salad. Drinks will be sold.

There also will be a silent auction, bake sale, cakewalk and 50/50 raffle. The auction items include overnight stays at Wild Rose Casino in Clinton, Iowa, and Par-A-Dice Casino in Peoria, as well as Quad Cities River Bandits tickets and a Chicago Bears football.

Call organizer Rosa Barb, 815-590-7500, to donate baked goods or auction items. Call Barb or Tim Cochran, 815-590-3424, for more information.
