Rachel M. Duncan

MOUNT MORRIS – Rachel M. Duncan, 94, of Mount Morris, went to be with her Lord Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013.

Rachel was born Oct. 20, 1918, in Collier, Kan., the daughter of Samuel J. and Lena (Simon) Stover. Rachel married Samuel Curtis Duncan on June 10, 1939, in Garber, Iowa. Rachel and Curtis spent 70 loving years together before he passed away on Oct. 28, 2009.

Rachel was a loving wife and devoted mother. She enjoyed cooking wonderful meals and sharing those meals and baked goods with neighbors and friends, and caring for her gardens and flowers. Rachel was a lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren, volunteering in the Women’s Fellowship. She enjoyed teaching the children during Sunday school and Bible school.

Rachel is survived by four children, sons, Kenneth (Joyce) Duncan of Mount Morris and Danny (Linda) Duncan of Lake Summerset, and daughters, Norlene (Edward) Weinberg of Mount Morris and Debra (Bruce) Kenny of Rockton; 10 grandchildren, Lynette (Kenneth) Van Lerberghe of Carol Stream, Timothy (Nieves) Duncan of Zionsville, Ind., Douglas (Julie) Duncan of Davis, Darren (Michelle) Duncan of Fort Collins, Colo., Jennifer (Gerald) Miller of Goshen, Ind., Rick (Kelly) Weinberg of Redmond, Wash., David Weinberg of DeKalb, Chris Kenny of Rockton, Laurie (Brandon) Miller of O’Fallon, and Andrea (Adam) Muhs of Naperville; 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and one sister-in-law, Lola Duncan of Mount Morris.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Louise Stover; husband, Curtis; sister, Ruth Messer; two brothers in infancy; four stepbrothers, Arthur Burke, Charles Burke, LeRoy Burke, and Vernon Burke; and niece, Betty Mumma.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Morris Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Ginny Haney, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Morris. Finch Funeral Home in Mount Morris is handling arrangements.

A memorial has been established to Mount Morris Church of the Brethren.
