Taste of Fiesta kicks off September

Every once and a while an occasion comes along you know will be big. September is shaping up to be that for the Sauk Valley with something for everyone. A number of organizations are working together to host several community wide events which will need your support.  Support through volunteers, participants, parade entries, runners, walkers, and more.

The month will start with the free Taste of Fiesta at Grandon Civic Center Sept. 7 on East Fourth Street.  It will feature nonprofits and vendors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., entertainment, food, arts and more from 10 to 8 p.m. If you didn't attend last year's inaugural event make plans to attend this year. It is a great chance to learn about local businesses and our area's Hispanic culture.

Sept. 14 is sure to be filled with excitement and people as the communities host the Bridge the Communities 5K/10K and a Fiesta Parade. The day will start with the Bridge race. The Kids Dash is at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K/10K will start at 9 a.m. The race will finish just in time to start lining up the annual Fiesta Parade which starts at noon in Rock Falls.

Food vendors will be on sidewalks and corners before, during and after the parade. I know time is precious, but if you can commit to even an hour of volunteering for one of the events mentioned above, call the Sauk Valley Area or Rock Falls Chamber office at 815-625-2400 or 815-625-4500. We would appreciate the help in making the Sauk Valley shine in September.

Other events in September include the Sept. 7 Canal Crawl in Rock Falls, Sept. 21 Paint the Town in Morrison and Harvest Hammer Run in Morrison.
