ROCK FALLS — A 12-year-old girl died from injuries sustained during a go-cart accident on Monday at her father's house in Rock Falls, police said in a news release this morning.
The girl was riding the go cart around noon Monday in the 900 block of 14th Avenue when she lost control and ran into the back of a flat bed truck parked in the driveway, hitting her head on the frame of the truck and ramming her chest into the trailer hitch, Chief Mike Kuelper said.
She was taken to CGH Medical Center, then flown to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison around 5:30 p.m. Police were notified of her death around 8:30 p.m., the release said.
Police are withholding her name until her relatives can be notified, Kuelper said.
She was a student at Tampico Middle School.
School starts Monday; Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico School District will have grief counselors available for any students who wish to speak with them, Kuelper said.
The investigation is ongoing.
