DIXON – Alois H. “Al” Schlemmel, 83, of Dixon, died Sunday Aug. 11, 2013, at Oregon Healthcare and Rehabilitation. He was born Jan. 29, 1930, in Chicago, the son of Bruno and Mary (Sutta) Schlemmel.
Al had worked as a computer operator for Dominicks Finer Foods for many years prior to his retirement. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Elmhurst, Villa Park and Carol Stream fire departments. He was a Master Gardener for Lee County Extension Office.
He married Shirley Henning April 10, 1959, in Villa Park.
He is survived by his wife, of Dixon; four daughters, Cyndi (Greg) Abell of Bensenville, Karen Berardi and Janet Nordan, of Dixon, and Debbie Schuler of San Diego, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Gregory and Eddie Abell, Kristina, Michael and Nicholas Berardi, Ken (Ann) Nordan, Chris Nordan, Jennifer (Alex) Wenskunas and Jackie (Shane) Wolber; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Schuler; and two brothers, Richard and Henry Schlemmel.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon, with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Cremation will follow, with burial of cremains at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established.
