POLO – A 22-year-old Polo woman faces misdemeanor drug charges after hitting a pickup Wednesday afternoon, the Ogle County Sheriff said in a news release Thursday.
Kylia Pekofske, 22, was southbound on Galena Trail Road when she failed to yield at an intersection and struck a pickup driven by Jeffery Rude, 56, also of Polo. She was airlifted to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where she was listed in fair condition Thursday.
Rude was treated at the scene and released.
Pekofske was charged with possession of less than 2.5 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to yield, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and having no insurance. She was released on an I-bond and given a notice to appear.
I-bonds, or individual bonds, cost no money up front; law enforcement can collect the full bail amount if the person charged fails to appear in court and a judge orders the bail forfeited.
