STERLING – For the second year, a local auto dealership is raffling off a car to benefit area high schools.
Pete Harkness, of Pete Harkness Auto Group, donated a 2014 Ford Fiesta. Tickets are $10 each, and all proceeds will go to the 10 area high school booster clubs participating.
The winner will be drawn Feb. 1 during a chili cookoff at Pete Harkness Buick, 2502 Locust St.
This is the second time the auto group has raffled a car for the booster clubs. Last year’s raffle raised $74,000, Marketing Director Kristina Kaecker said.
“The best part about it is not us giving away the car,” she said, “it’s the schools getting the money.”
Last year, eight schools participated; this year, Sterling and Bureau Valley are joining Milledgeville, Polo, Newman Central Catholic, Rock Falls, Erie, Prophetstown, Morrison and Fulton high schools.
Raffle tickets can be bought from any of the participating booster clubs, at all Pete Harkness locations and all Community State Bank branches.
Each booster club will have its own raffle to send three representatives to the final drawing, Kaecker said, so each school has an equal opportunity to have a winner.
Residents can write the name of the booster club they want their money to go to on each ticket they buy. The money from undesignated or illegible tickets will got to Self Help Enterprises Endowment Fund.
