STERLING – A free concert featuring high-energy Latino music is planned to get folks in the mood for this year’s Taste of Fiesta celebration.
The Taste of Fiesta Preview will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight Aug. 16 at the Dairy Mart Plus banquet hall, behind the restaurant at 312 16th Ave.
Chicago band Hurakan will headline; it plays acoustic indigenous percussion music with electronic effects.
Rebel X, one of the region’s most sought-after DJs, a favorite at colleges and night clubs, also will entertain.
Various local musicians also have been invited to perform.

This year’s Taste of Fiesta, featuring performances by local Latin American bands and possibly some bands from Chicago, as well as food and children’s events, will be held Sept. 7 at Grandon Civic Center in Sterling.
Organizers are in the process of planning more events that following week, including possibly a historical exhibit and a bilingual movie. The celebration will end Sept. 14 with the annual Fiesta Parade.
