STERLING – Volunteers are being sought for a cleanup of the Rock River.

The work will start at 8 a.m. Aug. 17 at Oppold Marina. Rock River Development Authority President James Marks said he expects between 50 and 75 volunteers to show up.

Volunteers will take to the river in boats and remove anything not meant to be in the river, Marks said. Volunteers are encouraged to bring boats, but it isn't a requirement. Anyone attending should expect to get dirty and get in the water.

Marks encouraged anyone who fishes, skis or boats on the river, or enjoys a view of the river, to help.

Contact Marks at 815-590-0854 or JamesMarks01@hotmail.com for more information.
