In Dixon, take the blame and move on

Now Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon is saying that Judy Baar Topinka is to blame for not catching former Dixon Comptroller Rita Crundwell’s theft of city money. Brad Hahn said it is the auditors: CliftonLarsonAllen and Janis Card. Before it was the bank at fault.

Folks have asked for the mayor’s resignation. It’s very confusing and disconcerting. With this finger-pointing, no one accepts the blame.

I wish the real culprit would just say, “Very sorry, but we trusted Rita completely, and we got scammed.” That will be a gentleman’s way, and maybe we can move on.

Also, how does Rita have the audacity to ask for a jail close to her boyfriend and also a reduced sentence? As far as I am concerned, she should be in prison for 53 years, a year for every million she stole.

It is not just about the money; it’s a betrayal of the city of Dixon, something quite unforgivable, unforgettable and totally incomprehensible.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
