Janann ‘Nan’ Compton

STERLING –   Janann “Nan” Compton, 91, of Sterling, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 at Sterling Pavilion Nursing Home.

Nan was born Jan. 22, 1922 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of James and Irene (Peck) Daykin. She married Marvin Compton on July 24, 1945. He preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 2003.  

She attended Bradley University in Peoria, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She was also a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sterling. Nan and Marvin enjoyed playing golf, boating and winters in Texas and Florida.

Survivors include her cousin, Elaine Hanley, and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Gary; and her brother, James Daykin Jr.

A very special thanks to the staff at Sterling Pavilion Nursing Home where Nan made her home for the past 10 years of her life.

Burial is at a later date at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
