Roof donations pass halfway mark

POLO – More than half the money needed to fix the leaky Polo Senior Center roof – $38,000 of the $60,000 needed – has been donated, center Director Barb Burke said Monday.

“It is very vital that this roof gets repaired,” Burke said. “We are one of the few handicapped-accessible buildings in Polo.

“Every time it rains, water is coming in the building. If this continues, we will have to close.”

The 20-year-old building is the Buffalo Township polling place and hosts a variety of community activities, including the Fourth Friday open mic music show, as well as being the gathering place for the town’s senior citizens.

“Where would our seniors go? We serve daily lunches, have activities, health and wellness programs, and entertainment.”

Donations can be sent to Polo Senior Center, 101 E. Mason St., Polo, IL 61064, or made to a fund set up at First State Bank Shannon-Polo and Blackhawk Area Credit Union.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
