The new Advance Auto Parts location, in front of Northland Mall on East Lincolnway in Sterling, could be open in October. The 6,500-square-foot store is one of 200 new sites the company is opening, and will have about 12 employees, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.

STERLING – Advance Auto Parts is coming to Sterling.

The national auto parts chain, as part of an expansion plan, is building a store in the 3000 block of East Lincolnway, near Northland Mall, and could be open in October.

Additionally, Cellular Connection of Rock Falls, a premium Verizon Wireless retailer, and Edward Jones are opening locations in the same building in Sterling, 4204 E. Lincolnway, near Menards and Buffalo Wild Wings.

The Advance Auto Parts will be the fifth national auto parts chain to move to the area, joining AutoZone, Carquest, NAPA Auto Parts and O’Reilly Auto Parts. The closest Advance Auto Parts location is in Clinton, Iowa, according to the company’s website.

The 6,500-square-foot Sterling location will be one of 200 new Advance Auto Parts stores and will have about 12 employees, spokeswoman Shelly Whitaker said.

Advance Auto Parts will service professional mechanics and customers working on their own vehicles. It will be open 7 days a week and replace batteries and windshield wiper blades, in addition to recycling motor oil.

The site, between the Fifth Third Bank and East Lincolnway, previously was owned by the mall.

As for the site farther east, Richard Coon, a financial adviser with Edward Jones, will be retiring Nov. 30. As a result, his business will be split and a second office will open in the new building in the 4000 block of East Lincolnway.

The new location, which will be the fourth office in Sterling, could be open by Aug. 12, Financial Adviser Mike Loos said. It will be staffed with two employees.

There also are two locations in Rock Falls and two in Dixon, he said.

The location put them in a growth area and somewhere they can service people from surrounding communites, such as Polo, who may be in Sterling to shop, Loos said.

There’s no timetable for the new Cellular Connection location, but it will offer the same products and services as the Rock Falls location, Manager Sarah Hoppe said.
