MENDOTA – Harold E. Stewart, 99, of Mendota, died Monday, July 29, 2013, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care in Mendota.

He was born Aug. 6, 1913, in East Grove Township, Lee County, the son of John and Frieda (Hoffman) Stewart. He was a lifelong farmer in the LaMoille and Sublette areas. Harold married Irene C. Schultz on Aug. 7, 1936, in Lacon. She preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 1993. He was a member of Sublette Union Church, where he had served as treasurer.

Survivors include his son, Melvin (Howardene) Stewart of Sublette; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary (Jim) Lane of Amboy and Mae Lee of Granite City.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Hillison; a son-in-law, Melvin Hillison; five brothers, Jack, Calvin, Cecil, Warren, and Chuck; and one sister, Dorothy.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. Burial will be at Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy.  

A memorial has been established to Heritage Health Therapyand Senior Care Activity Department.
