Thankful for successful program

The Dixon Public Library recently wrapped up its youth summer reading program, “Visit Book Island.”

There were 531 children signed up for the program this year, and 154 children completed a “Fiction is Fun” reading log to qualify for prizes.

The programs were well-attended, with 2,797 children and 942 adults participating.

The library would like to thank its sponsors and donors: Leydig Center, which sponsored all of the Monday family night programs, Golden Kiwanis, Walmart, Aurand Tree Service (which, along with Kristi Griffen, provided snacks for the pool parties), and Carol Chandler. Craft and prize donors were Pizza Hut, Rockford IceHogs, Illinois Railway Museum, and the Helfrich, Heller, and Verdick families. Thank you to Dixon Riverfront, First United Methodist Church, and Timber Creek for allowing use of their facilities and sites.

We had help from 16 adult volunteers and 16 youth volunteers. Adult volunteers were: Zoey Colglazier, Gloria Gates, Melissa Goken, Melissa Grant, Amanda Jensen, Janice Hamill, Sharon Hansen, Cheyenne Larsen, Shaye Linn, Sandy McKune, Pat Moore, Zahra Muhsin, Joyce Odenthal, Samantha Odenthal, Becky Rhea, and Katie Sauer.

Youth volunteers were: Caleb Ardis, Julia Ardis, Jadyn Erb, Raven Gouldsberry, Julia Heller, Raksha Hombal, Rishik Hombal, Emma Linton, Kaelyn Munson, Abby Rhea, Isaac Rhea, Dani Topping, Dion Tress, Haley Verdick, Grace Wadsworth, and Ervion Williams.

Note to readers: Lynn Roe is the director.
