Site of Memorial Pool meeting moved

DIXON – Supporters of Veterans Memorial Pool will have to wait to meet at the pool.

Out of concern for the weather forecast, organizer Marilyn Trulock said tonight’s meeting, originally scheduled at the pool site, will be held at 7 p.m. at the Public Health and Safety Building, 220 S. Hennepin Ave.

This is the third meeting for people who are working toward renovating the historic pool, which has been closed for more than a dozen years. Each meeting has had about 40 attendees.

At previous meetings, supporters have signed up for committees to study various areas, such as finances, public relations and fundraising, to reopen the pool.

Most recently, the Dixon Park District, which owns the pool, said it will wait to hear from these supporters before it decides whether to put an advisory referendum on the ballot to increase taxes to reopen the pool.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
