STERLING – Robert John Larakers, 69, of Sterling, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Dixon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Robert was born July 11, 1944, in Chicago, to Joseph and Virginia (Lilge) Larakers. He served in the Army from 1965 to 1967, and saw action in the Vietnam War. He married Monica Doweiko on Nov. 23, 1968, in Chicago. Robert enjoyed gardening, working in his garage, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Monica of Sterling; two daughters, Diane (Greg) Welenc of Oregon and Kate (George) Edwards of Tinley Park; one son, John Larakers of Kankakee; three grandchildren, Jada, Casey, and Kylie; one sister, Susan (Gene) Brown of Indiana; one brother, Joseph (Pat) Larakers of Texas; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and a host of friends.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
