POLO – Raymond Palmer Rhodes, 93, of Polo, died Monday, July 29, 2013, at Polo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. He was a farmer in the Ogle and Lee County areas before retiring.

Raymond was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Dixon, the son of Henry Roy and Dorothea Bess (Palmer) Rhodes. He served in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Polo.  

Survivors include two sisters, Lotilla Paap of Dixon and Phyllis White of Sterling; special friend, Helen Ports of Polo; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Harry, Richard, Henry, and Donald Rhodes; two sisters, Dorothy Shipman, Ada Bess Folkers; and two brothers-in-law, Charles White and Jack Paap.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday and the funeral at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church in Polo, with the Rev. Derek Rogers, pastor, officiating. Burial, with full military graveside honors accorded by the Dixon combined veterans organizations, will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon. Casual dress has been requested by the family. Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.

Memorials have been established to Faith United Methodist Church in Polo, Polo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, and Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon.
