Hazel I. Blackburn

ROCK FALLS – Hazel I. Blackburn, 93, of Rock Falls, died Monday, July 29, 2013, at Walnut Manor Nursing Home. She was employed as a payroll clerk at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. in Sterling, retiring in 1982.

She was born June 15, 1920, in Beloit, Wis., the daughter of Ezra and Hattie (Drennan) Kendell.

Survivors include two sons, Lester ”Von” (Jackie) Blackburn of Rock Falls and Dale (Penny) Blackburn of Clinton, Iowa; one daughter, Donna (Dan) Newlon of Sparta, Mo; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Edna and Clara; and one brother.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday and the funeral at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls, with the Rev. Chris Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

A memorial has been established to Happy Tails Animal Shelter.
